Dubai Itinerary

1. ~9:00aAl Fahidi historic district

   Wind-tower houses and sand-colored lanes from before the oil — the small museums here are the city's only real link to its pearling past.

   Cross to Deira on a wooden water-taxi for one dirham, then the Gold Souk's blinding windows and the Spice Souk's saffron and frankincense.

   
3. ~1:00pLunch at Ravi or Al Ustad

   Old Dubai's institutions: nihari and seekh kebabs at the legendary Ravi (Pakistani), or charcoal-grilled Iranian kebab at Al Ustad Special Kabab.

4. ~3:00pEmirati mezze at Arabian Tea House

   A shaded courtyard for the local cuisine that's hard to find elsewhere — balaleet, chebab pancakes, and karak chai.

1. 8:30aBurj Khalifa, At The Top

   Up the world's tallest building early, before the haze — book the 124/125 deck, or 148 for the outdoor terrace. Sunrise slots are the calmest.

   The calligraphy-wrapped torus is the most striking building in the city — book timed entry; the immersive floors are genuinely good.

   
3. ~1:30pLunch over the fountain

   A Downtown terrace facing the Burj Lake — Lebanese mezze or a long lunch with the tower filling the window.

   
4. ~3:30pDubai Mall & the aquarium

   The aquarium tunnel, the souk wing, and the sheer scale of it — air-conditioned wandering through the afternoon heat.

   
5. ~6:00pThe Dubai Fountain

   The choreographed water-and-light show on the half-hour after dark, best from the waterfront promenade or an abra on the lake.

   

Everything here is indoors and over-conditioned by design — lean into it midday. Sunrise at the Burj beats the heat-haze that fogs afternoon views.

   Kite Beach or the public stretch with the Burj Al Arab sail on the horizon — the classic Dubai postcard, best before midday.

2. ~11:30aMadinat Jumeirah

   An abra through the canals of the souk-style resort complex, with the Burj Al Arab framed between the wind towers.

   
3. ~1:30pBu Qtair fish shack

   A Dubai institution — pick your fish and prawns from the cooler, they fry it in a secret masala, and you eat it with rice and paratha at plastic tables by the sea.

4. ~4:00pThe View at the Palm

   Up The Palm Tower for the only spot that shows you the whole palm-frond island from above, with the Gulf beyond.

   
5. ~7:00pMarina sundowner & dinner

   A yacht-side table or a rooftop along Dubai Marina as the towers light up — seafood, or grills with a Gulf view.

   

Sea and sand in the cooler hours, towers after dark. Bu Qtair has no real address and a queue — that's how you know you've found it.
