Trip length
A tailored 3-day plan for Istanbul
Day 1

Sultanahmet's Imperial Core

HAGIA SOPHIA · BLUE MOSQUE · TOPKAPI
  1. ~8:30a
  2. 9:30a
  3. ~11:00a
  4. ~1:00p
  5. ~2:30p
  6. 7:30p

Sultanahmet's four great sights sit within one square, so this is the no-transit day. Mosques close to visitors during the five daily prayers — check times and dress modestly.

Day 2

Bazaars & the Bosphorus

GRAND BAZAAR · SPICE BAZAAR · MEYHANE NIGHT
  1. ~9:30a
  2. ~11:30a
  3. ~12:45p
  4. ~2:30p
  5. ~7:30p

Both bazaars close Sundays. The ferry up the Bosphorus is the cheapest great cruise in the city — sit on the right heading north for the palaces and fortresses.

Day 3

Beyoğlu, Galata & a Hammam

GALATA · ISTIKLAL · KARAKÖY
  1. ~9:30a
  2. ~11:00a
  3. ~12:45p
  4. ~2:30p
  5. ~6:00p

The hammam resets the legs after two days of hills and cobbles. Mikla's terrace is the best sunset table in the city — reserve a window seating.

The specialty of Istanbul

Eat it here, then bring it home

Istanbul's table bridges two continents — Ottoman palace cooking, Anatolian home dishes, Aegean seafood, and an endless meze-and-street-food culture washed down with tea.
