Trip length
A tailored 3-day plan for Petra
Day 1

Into the Rose-Red City

THE SIQ · THE TREASURY · STREET OF FACADES
  1. 6:30a
  2. ~7:30a
  3. ~9:00a
  4. ~11:00a
  5. ~1:00p
  6. 8:00p

Petra is all about the dawn start — first through the Siq means the Treasury without the crush and the canyon in the best light. Wear real walking shoes; this is a big day on your feet over uneven rock.

Day 2

The Monastery & the High Trails

AD-DEIR · COLONNADED STREET · ROYAL TOMBS
  1. ~7:30a
  2. ~9:30a
  3. ~12:00p
  4. ~1:30p
  5. ~3:30p
  6. ~7:30p

The Monastery's 800 steps are the second great climb — do it early while it's cool. The Royal Tombs are at their most beautiful in the last hour of light, so save them for the late afternoon.

Day 3

Little Petra & Wadi Rum

SIQ AL-BARID · DESERT HIGHWAY · WADI RUM
  1. ~8:00a
  2. ~10:00a
  3. ~11:30a
  4. ~1:30p
  5. 5:00p
  6. ~8:00p

Little Petra is a quick, rewarding stop on the way south. Wadi Rum is best as an overnight (the long-trip option) — the sunset, the stars, and the dawn over the dunes are unforgettable; a day visit catches only the jeep tour.

The specialty of Petra

Eat it here, then bring it home

Jordanian and Bedouin cooking centers on the communal feast — yogurt-braised lamb, flatbreads, and generous mezze — with desert traditions like the buried zarb.

The rose-red city carved into the cliffs gave Indiana Jones one of cinema's great reveals.

The façade at the end of the Siq is the 'Canyon of the Crescent Moon' exterior. Arrive early or stay for 'Petra by Night' when it's lit by candles.
