Build your Reykjavík itinerary

Choose how many days you have and we'll lay out a day-by-day plan built around the experiences and flavors you can only get here. Pick anywhere from one to five days below.

Trip length
A tailored 3-day plan for Reykjavík
Day 1

Reykjavík City & the Old Harbour

HALLGRÍMSKIRKJA · LAUGAVEGUR · HARBOUR
  1. ~9:00a
  2. ~10:00a
  3. ~11:30a
  4. ~1:00p
  5. ~3:00p
  6. 8:00p

Reykjavík is tiny and walkable — keep the city to one relaxed day. DILL books out far ahead and seats few; it's the reservation to make before anything else on this trip.

Day 2

The Golden Circle

ÞINGVELLIR · GEYSIR · GULLFOSS
  1. ~8:30a
  2. ~10:30a
  3. ~12:00p
  4. ~1:30p
  5. ~4:00p
  6. ~8:00p

The Golden Circle is the classic loop and easily self-driven — go anti-clockwise to hit Þingvellir before the coaches. In winter, leave generous daylight buffers; the sun's up only a few hours.

Day 3

South Coast & the Aurora

SELJALANDSFOSS · SKÓGAFOSS · BLACK SAND
  1. ~8:00a
  2. ~9:30a
  3. ~12:30p
  4. ~2:00p
  5. ~9:00p
  6. ~7:00p

The south coast is a long day — start early and don't rush Reynisfjara's waves, which are genuinely deadly. The aurora needs dark, clear skies and a little luck; build in a backup night if you can.

The specialty of Reykjavík

Eat it here, then bring it home

Icelandic cooking is shaped by isolation and preservation — lamb, fish, and dairy at its core — with a few famously challenging traditional dishes and a clever use of geothermal heat.

On screen & in story

Where the stories were filmed

Iceland's otherworldly landscapes, an easy day-trip from Reykjavík, have doubled for alien planets, the far North, and beyond the Wall.

  • Game of Thrones

    Þingvellir National Park

as The Bloody Gate / the Eyrie road

The continental rift valley played the pass to the Vale; it's also where you can snorkel between two tectonic plates at Silfra.

  • Interstellar & Batman Begins

    Svínafellsjökull glacier

as An ice planet / the Himalayas

This glacier tongue stood in for Mann's frozen planet in Interstellar; guided glacier walks leave from nearby Skaftafell.
