Trip length
A tailored 3-day plan for Zermatt
Day 1

The Matterhorn & the Village

GORNERGRAT · ZERMATT · SUNNEGGA
  1. ~8:00a
  2. 9:00a
  3. ~11:30a
  4. ~1:30p
  5. ~3:30p
  6. 7:30p

Zermatt is entirely car-free — you arrive by train from Täsch. Do Gornergrat on the clearest morning for the Matterhorn; clouds often gather on the peak by afternoon, so go early.

Day 2

The Matterhorn Glacier Paradise

KLEIN MATTERHORN · GLACIER · TROCKENER STEG
  1. ~8:30a
  2. ~9:30a
  3. ~11:30a
  4. ~1:30p
  5. ~3:30p
  6. ~7:30p

It's deep-winter cold at 3,883 m even in summer — bring layers, gloves, and sunglasses for the glare. If clouds sit on the high peaks, flip this with a lower-altitude day; the view is the whole point.

Day 3

Alpine Trails & the Five Lakes

BLAUHERD · FIVE LAKES WALK · SUNNEGGA
  1. ~9:00a
  2. ~10:00a
  3. ~1:00p
  4. ~3:00p
  5. ~7:30p

The Five Lakes is the loveliest easy hike in Zermatt — Stellisee's reflection is best in the still morning air, so start early. Sturdy shoes and a light layer; mountain weather turns fast.

The specialty of Zermatt

Eat it here, then bring it home

Alpine Swiss food is built for the mountains — melted cheese, cured meats, and crisp rösti — eaten in a car-free village beneath the Matterhorn.

On screen & in story

Where the stories were filmed

The Matterhorn — Zermatt's pyramid peak — is one of the most filmed and drawn mountains on earth, and the model for a very famous chocolate bar.

  • Toblerone & Paramount

    The Matterhorn

    as The iconic peak

The Matterhorn is the mountain on every Toblerone bar (look for the hidden bear of Bern in the logo) and inspired countless studio idents. Best framed from the Gornergrat railway or at dawn reflected in the Riffelsee.
